Ward Family Farm is a small beef farm that started selling farm raised beef in 2019. The farm sells directly to consumers, a “Farm to Fork” model that in 2023 sold over 12,000 lbs. of beef to over 150 Maine families located all over the state from Scarborough to Turner to Rockland to Machias to Lincoln.

Ward Family Farm offers a variety of beef box options in the spring and beef box options, halves, and wholes options in the fall, all from locally grown beef cattle on our farm. No hormones or implants to support growth are given to our cattle. They are raised on our pastures during the late spring, summer, and fall, and are also fed hay from our farm and grain that will provide tender and flavorful beef. Ward Family Farm beef is processed at State Inspected slaughterhouse. Our beef is hand-cut and trimmed and placed in vacuum-sealed packaging.
Raise and sell top-quality, local, natural beef directly to Maine families at an affordable price to offset food insecurity while teaching how our farm tends to and cares for animals and the land.
Ward Family Farm is located in Newburgh, Maine. Ryan Ward started beef farming in 2019 and is in the process of expanding haying operations. The farm consists of approximately 400 acres, containing both hay production and beef farm. Current staff includes the owner Ryan Ward, his and additional family for seasonal work. We produce hay for our farm-raised beef and hay for local horse farms and small/hobby farmers.
Our beef is a “farm to fork” model. We purchase feeder calves from many small local farmers that we raise to finish. We sell our beef directly to consumers providing multiple purchasing options that include multiple sized box options from 10 to 250 lbs. of assorted beef cuts as well as half and wholes.
Our beef is processed into burgers, steaks, roasts, and other cuts at a Maine licensed slaughterhouse and is State inspected. In 2019 the farm started selling beef directly to consumers. In 2019 the farm processed 4 beef cattle, in 2020 that increased to 8 and in 2021 to 17 and this past year of 2023 the farm process 30 head as we continue to grow!
The mission/purpose is to increase both hay production and number of beef cattle purchased from local Maine farmers to finish and sell the beef directly to Maine consumers. Beef production will increase through available feed grown on the farm from 17 head in 2021 to 40 head in 2024 and eventually to 60 head annually. The farm seeks to increase beef sales through multiple marketing methods. This includes the current method of directly to consumers and to increase sales to local stores and restaurants that are seeking locally raised beef. This will increase the viability of the farm for current and future generations.
We deliver free to Newburgh and Hampden residents and offer delivery to the greater Bangor area for a small delivery fee. Additionally we offer convenient pickup at our farm and at scheduled locations in Waterville, Augusta, Rockland and Orono. Ward Family Farm believes in sustainable practices and land management. We feed our animals quality grain from a Maine family-owned milling company. We believe in providing our beef cattle a happy, healthy, and humane life through quality feed and open spaces to roam on our farm. Our beef cattle are a source of food; however, until that time comes we strive to give them a high quality of life which reflects in the quality and taste of our beef.
Ward Family Farm supports other local Maine farmers. We purchase our beef calves from small farmers who are just as passionate and caring for their animals as we are. We purchase them at a fair price and want them to succeed and build long-term family business relationships with them. For us to succeed we need them to succeed.
